Hello guys,
I think to purchase a 420L aquarium and there to have some fish to grow and after to put them at my main aquarium..So i have an oscar he is 7 months old and the 420 ll be his new home before i add him into the main tank. Can i have and a juvenile jaguar with him in a 420L or not? I know that the jag can be with oscar in a 750L but if they are juv can they be together in a 420L temporary?

I have tried twice, to keep a managuensis and an Oscar together. Once in a 135gal, (511L) and once in a 180G (681L) both times where semi successful until the Managuensis hit around 9-10 inches. Then they failed, both times (two different managuensis) snapped and began beating on the Oscar (same Oscar actually) and I had to remove them because I wasn’t going to let my Oscar get seriously hurt.

So, yes it can work for a short time depending on the fish in question. But it will not work long run, even in the 750L it may not work long run. But maybe I just had bad luck. Take it for what you will. Hope this helps

Helps a lot mate, well i like jags but i dont want my oscar to be injured .. maybe i ll try in a 1200L

With cichlids it really is a gamble, I’ve had my Oscar a very long time and I’ve tried all sorts of tankmates with him. Currently he is in the 180g with another Oscar, a small carpintis and a small Jack Dempsey. There is harmony right now but I’m always watching to see when or if things will go south.

True my oscar fought with my striata and i rehomed striata and he is doing fine with the vieja of mine now , they ll prolly make hybrid babies..

When i am not sure about that but they like each other , they dont fight and all the time vieja follows oscar anmoving their tales together.. lets see what ll happend. Anyway i never heard of a hybrid oscar too

Vieja btw is hybrid i am not sure which exactly but the seller/friend said that

It’s not possible for them to hybridize. Vieja species can, but nothing can w/ an oscar. Sometimes even the same sex cichlids will act like they are pairing, but never produce.
