Oscar and JD ph?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
duanes duanes my RD water is at 6.5 ph Could I just dilute my normal water with it?
Mixed 30% or 50% with tap it could do well to dilute the tap for the oscars.
If it were me, I'd get a test kit together results.
Something like the test strip below.

It shows pH, Total Headness, and nitrate among others, I got it at a local home improvement store that sell supplies for swimming pools.
If the oscars start to get HLLE, dilute and change more water. They seem especially prone to HLLE if nitrate is higher than 10ppm, in combination with hard water.
One caveat, don't use straight RO for fish like oscars, they do need some alkalinity (buffers).

Hello I have a breeding pair of JD's in a75g who just bred and a 125g with two Oscars my ph has stayed an consistent 7.7 is this to high for them? if so how do I lower it? would the JD's be spawning if it was two high?

Thanks
If your PH is consistent, I wouldn’t mess with it. Stable ph is more important than the actual ph.
