Oscar and Pacu setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
unless you plan on upgrading your tank to a 250-300g or beyond, and that still not permanent, dont do it. your tank may look large now, but it wont once you get a pacu in there, trust me. do a search on MFK for PACU and you'll see the threads on them. wonderful fish, IF you can provide the proper housing for them when the time comes

heres what 14 and 18" pacu look like in a 250g tank, 7x26x26. keep in mind, pacu grow EXTREMELY fast, and can/will reach lengths of 2-3 feet.

I had a pacu in my 120. He quickly got too big, bullying the other fish, knocking over decor and occasionally banging into the glass. Went from about five inches to 12 in about four months. Keep in mind the eventual size of the leporinus and tinfoils also.

I was of the same mind you are all telling me; but my brother-in-law, whom has had tanks a lot longer than I, said the Pacu will not outgrow the tank and would stop at a certain size. I will post some pics, but in the mean time I do have a video at youtube

fish do not grow to the tank size.

IF they did, that would be pretty sweet, as long a they stayed healthy.

does your brother HAVE Pacu?? It seems you are the victim of some missinformation. In which case that sucks.

Return the Pacu and save yourself a headache. Pacu are not called "tankbusters" for no reason. :grinno:

And let your brother know that fish grow and grow and grow and if they stop growing before their natural adult size is reached, its because of the water quality, not the size of the tank. Poor water quality stunts growth. And stunted growth is different than a fish maxing out at its adult size.

True and I just wanter to elaborate and make sure you also realize that is very unhealthy for your fish and is not a practice of any real fish keeper.

pacu get like 3 feet adult size so dont do it! get some convicts

sadly, alot of ppl out there believe that a fish will only grow to the size of its enviornment. but they dont. unlike humans and other animals fish have whats called "indeterminate growth" meaning the whole time they are alive-all throughout their life they NEVER stop growing.. they grow until they die.

im glad you found this forum! maybe you could get your brother to join also, and i bet he would learn a thing or two about fish! its nice having you here-

Thanks to all, I very much appreciate teh assist and will not be keeping a pacu in the tank. So in the end I will have 1 9" Albino Tiger, 1 8" Red Tiger, 2x Red tail tinfoils, and 2X Black banded Leporonis might add a Catfish after tank has been up awhile, but that will be that. I now have a new thread on my old tank set-up please check it out.:headbang2:mwave:
