i have a 200l tank and am setting up a 310l but am not sure if my polleni which is a bit of a bully will cope with an oscar?can anyone suggest agreeable tankmates for either fish!!

whats the meaurments of this tank?
polleni and oscars are of similar temperment, i have oscars and am growing out a polleni to go in the tank in the future if the thing ever grows quick enough,,,At the end of the day its a trail and error thing but, you tank does sound a bit small but maybe iam wrong,

Neither of my two polleni, 8" & 10" both males, play well with other large cichlids.

it may or may not work, although it could be worth the risk. Some specimens of polleni tend to be very aggressive though. Mine is the dominant fish in the tank, but hardly intolerant of tankmates

thanks for the input my tank is 5`x2`x2`.i do have a 4` tank on standby and as the oscar is the bigger fish already it is the polleni i am worried about the oscar is 12" and the polleni is 7" but is growing pretty fast.i thought given enough hiding places it might work :nilly:

the oscar will end up the larger fish, so don't worry too much about the polleni catching up IMO

I have a 11+inch oscar and also two 6inch oscars and a gt in my 5/2/2 and theres no aggrestion, i added the two oscars with the 11+inchers which were a pair and they accepted the newbies, then i had an accident and as a result the female died....so in my oppinion the oscar will be ok....but you never know, iam growing out my polleni to add to my collection so hope my theory's ok

My polleni isn't very tolerant of other fish either and he's around seven to eight inches. He's living with a Red Bahia at the moment in a tank with a lot of hiding places. I was hoping he'd eventually go into my 125 with some of my other cichlids, but I don't know if that is ever going to happen.

I have a small polleni 3" in. living in a 100g. tank with 9 small Bahia's and about 6 small severums. I imagine I'll have to thin this out in a few months...I agree with the idea it's really on a fish per fish basis. There seems to be more personality variation in new world cichlids than Africans though....it's why I think they're abit more interesting than africans, athough those guys are continuously entertaining as well..
