Oscar and Snails

I'm on my 12th snail now. Is it impossible for them to survive with my Oscar? They either dissappear cause his fat ass ate them or never open up once I put them in the tank. All my chemical levels are fine. Any ideas?

He's learned now that you feed him snacks in a shell,no more.Unless you find an apple snail the size of an apple

Oscars love snails,mine eats as many as I put in the tank.Hes about a foot long and hell hunt down a pond snail.anything too big to swallo gets sucked out of its shell.

So theyre a good dietary supplement but not likely to be a good tankmate

i have read that 80% of an oscars diet in the wild is based off of crustaceans like snails,cray fish, fresh water crabs and clams...so good luck with trying to keep one alive with him...

hahahaha..........well thanks guys.....It was worth a shot. I have a blue mystery snail that seems to be making it right now. We'll see how it developes.

I have 2 snails in with my O's. But they are also the size of a baseball. I had to buy extra large apple snails. The first couple I put in there with them, they ate. As long as they can't fit inside their mouths they are fine.
