oscar behavior

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would just take him back and try again once your 210 is ready. That way you don't lose all of your fish on one that you just purchased. The 210 will leave the fish with more space to swim in case of any aggression. Oscars are pretty common and easily replaced, especially one that you've only had a day. besides, it will give you time to track down a wild one or another type of Oscar that you like.

You may have to return him. Who know if he will calm down.

Just get a meaner cichlid to teach the oscar a lesson! :naughty:
It really was a joke! Sarcastic, I know!

Im pretty sure he was joking
Yep, just a joke.

I have been dealing with my own aggression issues in my tank. The funny thing is it is not the 10" Midas but all the other tankmates I have had with him. Nobody messes with the Midas but they all just can not get along with each other. I finally got tired of it and got rid of the troublemakers. I am still in the process of finding suitable tankmates myself.

Yeah I think he's gonna be returned to the LFS if his personality doesn't change ASAP. I do really like the wild ones so it will give me more time to find one. Thanks for the response!

I say return him,to be honest Oscars are very common even at normal pet stores like petsmart.I say look around some more for different cichlids honestly, you may find something else that is better than a Oscar when you get a 210 gallon tank.

alright its official, tomorrow he's gone. Does anyone really know how common it is for oscars to have personalities like this?

I dont get it if you did a bunch of research you would of known that Oscars are aggressive. Cichlids for the most part are aggressive fish and very terirtorial. I am not trying to put you down but your Oscar wants territory and in a 55 that would mean more then half the tank.

Really depends on the fish... my friend has some that live fine with smaller fish?

Its strange cuz oscars are supposed to be docile for the most part? Are you feeding it a lot cuz oscars are always hungry and they do get aggressive when they are hungry. Is there lots of hiding places for the other fish and any places where the oscar can claim like a cave or something.
