Maybe a bit of a silly thread.;) But I was vacuuming, cleaning, and doing a water change on one of my tanks with a 10-12" Oscar in it...and 3 Gar (12-18"). Every time I clean this tank...I'm always a little concerned that when I stick my hand in there that one of the Gar are going to snap/bite me (just out of instinct or competition with the other Gar).

Whenever I cleaned this tank in the past...the 10-12" Oscar always tried his best to stay as far away from me as possible. I should have known better today that he was in a bad/aggressive mood...since he started attacking the siphon/vacuum hose as soon as I put it in the tank. About 30 minutes later I had to stick my hand in this tank to rearrange some decorations & an air stone device...and as I was doing it...my Oscar all of a sudden bit me on the back of my hand!:(

No damage done on the back of my hand...just more of a sudden unexpected situation! Guess I will have to keep my eye on this guy from now on!!!;)

Very funny...I guess you & him both enjoy it. Maybe it's like two humans shaking hands!;)

My Oscar bit me on the back of the hand...so too large & flat of an area for him to grab anything.

How big is your Oscar...and has he ever bitten you on the finger? Did it hurt/draw blood?

Thanks

4 O's bigger than that pic in a 125?
How do you have that when a 75g is the ideal size for one O by himself or 150g for a pair?

Anyways, funny story OP ;)

I used to have a texasxjd pair and the texas (dad) would bite me multiple times during water changes, I literally have the scar to prove it.

Ohh...I have a breeding pair of JD's. The male is 9-10"...and is an very good "dad" to his spawn & female partner...but is EXTREMELY aggressive towards anything else. When I open the glass lid on the tank to feed them...he literally comes to the surface of the water...and looks like he wants to jump out & bite me!;)

If I need to do anything in the tank that requires me to stick my hand in...I trap him in a net against the side of the tank...or I remove him for the tank & put him in a bucket while I work on the tank.

He's one mean JD!;)
