ok how do i sex my oscars?

only a few possible ways the first is simply if you see one laying eggs, that's a female lol
the next is by their breeding tubes, males will have v shaped breeding tubes while females will be more U shaped. and the other far less reliable method is by venting.

but in my case it seems my female is either inexperienced or not mature enough yet (most report sexually mature at 12 mos but oscarfishlover.com says 18 mos) The male red oscar (the beast) has his breeding tubes out, but tiny the female does not have hers out. guess I have to wait then.

As with any cichlid, they like to breed in small tanks. I have 3 breeding pair of manageuse(commonly know as the jaguar cichlid) they will not breed in the 55 gallon tank because that is a much larger area, then the 10 gallon breeding tank they the 3 pairs breed in this is how I can control the breeding population that goes on in the tanks, as far as those fish go. There are about 10 different types of cichlids in that tank alone with the 3 pairs of jaguar cichlids. So if anyone is wondering if they can get fish to breed with other fish in the same tank yes you can, and it is also not recemmened that you take any of the other fish out of the tank just dso the breeding pair of fish can have a successful batch of fry, cause by doing so can result in the death of the male fish which commonly happens when there aren't any other fish for the male to fend off, so he which now becomes the only other treat in the tank so the female will torcher him till he is nolonger a treat which basicly means he must die to protect the fry. This does not always happen but when you remove all the other fish in the tank you are interfearing with what would happen natually in the wild.

I don't agree, fuzzbal. He can't put those 2 Oscars in a 10 g (did I read that right?) or even a 55 g and still be able to call himself a responsible fish owner :-)
