I wanna keep the tank super clean and crystal clear. Btw. i was wondering. What does water changes really do? Like I was wondering if anyones ever done a set up that's self efficient without water changes? I was thinking of a hydrophonic system on top of the filter systems. Only cleaning out the filters throughly and putting more water in the tank. Is that bad? I do water changes. But I'm ttryingt to figure something out.

Mate you simply cant go without water changes, water changes are good to eliminate substances that can't be eliminated by the filtering process.

Those fish are fine in a 125gallon. You don't need an fx5, but if you have the money get one.
