Oscar cichlid not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would definitely do a few sets of 50% water changes like they said.

Cant really see anything physically wrong with him..he may just be stressed. Have you added those tankmates recently?

Add any new fish to the tank around the time this behavior began?

No they have been in for about 7 months and he's been perfectly fine with them I don't really know what happened. Can temperatures exceeding 86 degrees or below 70 degrees affect an oscars eating habits?

Yes big time temp needs to stay in the 78-80range. Id adjust my temp & do a couple 75% wc's. If your water parameters are good

+1 tank over stocked. why asking on temp range? they like between 76 and 79 , but do fine higher up to 85 or so, but you put it forth like there are large temp swings. this is not good, Oscar can be picky eaters when you change things up, like food. he can go 3 weeks easily with out eating, if its just a change of food thing then he will eventually eat, no happy stress free oscar in good water quality ever starved them selves to death, just a mater imprinting this food now. I am more curious as to water change schedule and perams are running. that stock looking at a 80% water change every other day, tank dosed with prime for size of tank not water replacing, until you get a bigger tank this should be the norm. I say every other day because prime binds for 48 hours. keep in mind binds, does not remove.

Well now I am doing 50% water changes a day and I am running 2 emperor filters and 2 air pumps and a uv sterilizer and the heat was because the water temperature swayed a bit too high for a few days and I didn't know how to change the temp without doing it so fast so I was slowly lowering it until it got around 86 and I am still lowering it only about 2 degrees f a day and a 50% water change i might reduce my stock as well because I do have a lot of fish and they are fairly big
