No. The toad could have parasites and could have gotten into pesticides/fertilizer. I wouldn't risk it.
Every time my dog tried to eat a toad he would start foaming at the mouth, drooling everywhere and look rabid. Don't know if it would happen to the fish but I'd advise against it.
Toad, no. Frog, fine. Even if it did eat something nasty, a week of powerfeeding and high humidity will rinse it out pretty well. Most pesticides have to accumulate for a long time before causing any problems from what I've been told. And it seems to hold true, as my Oscar is fine and I give 'cleaned' wild food all the time. Usually earthworms soaked in several changes of tap water, but also tadpoles I had captive for several weeks and a frog from my grandma's back yard.
most likely bufo americanus, your dog was reacting to there venom, which is used as a defense mechanism, the venom is called bufotoxins, and most of the toads in the midwest are only mild at the most, although possibly strong enough to kill a fish, definatly stay away from feeding your large fish toads or salamanders, a tree frog would be much safer but not even sure if that would be recommended, not sure if fish need a significant source of calcium in there diet, if so i guess once or twice a year wouldnt be a bad thing
lmao, i guess that would be away to go about it, i guess it would be easier to just milk the toad, its not to hard to do and would save you a mess, once the toad is milked its toxins will not regain potency for atleast a month, you still have to worry about parasites and pesticides unless you know the source of your toad
A customer of mine said that he fed his Bearded Dragon a toad he found outside. It stopped eating, turned dark...and was "dead enough" looking eventually that he dug a hole for it. When he went to put it in a bag, it revived a little, so he gave it another chance..it's still living but it appears to have intestinal problems. I wouldn't risk it.
