Well you stated one reason why...and to me thats enough of a reason not to.
If you want to feed you africans protein rich food and enjoy seeing them get bloat or feeding you americans veggie rich food and dont want them to grow and color to their potential then please by all means mix you cichlids =)
and besides the Oscar will still grow alot more than its current size...idk what type of "african cichlid" oscarlover61898 is planning to add to his tank but it may be max size right now and as i just said the Oscar isnt. What happens when the oscar is double the size of the "african cichlid" ?
