I've had a little black oscar for about 5 months now. i saved him from a really bad pet store. anyways he has barely grown an in. and i was told that he should be bigger know. I've been feeding him blood worms and cichlid pellets. any ideas on how to make him bigger i want to put him in with my others.

For oscar to grow big, you need to feed live feeders!

Your Oscar hasonly grown one inch in five months?? This is unusual as O's tend to be one of the fastest growing Cichlids. What size is your Oscar? What size tank is he in?

gave mine pellets and then bloodworms, earthworms, an occasional feeder, cricket, etc...and it jumped from 2 to 8 in 3 months or so, and I've only had it since the middle of May ( in fact its the one in my avatar)
Id bump up the water changes, and make sure the temp. is good, as well as your water readings.
Unless somehow it's stunted or deformed, it should grow quicker than that imo.

Hikari cichlid gold or bio-gold. If hes small frozen baby brine shrimp or if hes a med size go with brine shrimp. No feeders! you dont know what the feeder fish could have! I've spent 2 weeks trying to get rid of internal parasites that my fish got from feeder fish. If you want to feed them feeders get a male and female con. Once they spawn feed the oscar the fry. That way you know your fish are free from disease.

dang thats crazy 1" in 5 months . i got one almost 2 months ago and hes grown about 3" 's since then . but i feed mine alot of live feeders , crickets , market shrimp and hikari pellets . feed him more and he will grow . lol

i never fed mine live ever... he grew to 11inches in first year, and i was feeding FD Krill and algae waffers, and bloodworms. there is a total misconception on O's and their "needing" LIVE fish to eat.
