  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
every oscar that i have ever had has grown at least an inch a month. probably had like ten o's since i started keeping fish. currently i have a 3inch wild common oscar, and a 10.5inch redtiger o. so what size tank is your oscar in ?

As stated, 60 gallon.

The oscar's slower growth may also be caused by lack of filteration, whos in there with them, not getting enough food bc of the competition for it bc of other tankmates, your water params being out of wack, not a large enough water change, etc...also if your water temp. is colder, thier metabolism will be slower as well, slowing thier growth to a certain extent as well.
As although diet usually is the primary cause, it could be the water in this case.
However an inch in that long? It may just be stunted.
How big is it now?

believe it or not he is the only thing in the tank is him. i moved everything but him to my180 so for the past 2 months he has been by himself and the water in the tank is perfect. i've checked it three times this week. when i got him from the store he was all beat up and had really bad fins and he was only about an 2in

It is possible that when you bought him he had already been stunted this was probably caused by the beating he took and possibly the tank the store had him in. Its clearly not your fault and well done for rescuing the little guy.

its great you rescued him but still really weird that he hasnt grown that much usually stunting doesnt happen at that small and if it does he should have been able to start growing again since put in the bigger tank, hmmm what color is his poo? maybe he has internal parasites keeping him from growing? if he came from bad lfs or was fed lots of unquarantined feeders he could very easily have gotten them. GOOD LUCK

do you have a pic of this "oscar"... you say its black... do you mean its completely black? or does it has normal tiger / red markings on it?

also you dont need live feeders thats bullcrap... I have 2 massive oscars that are 3 years old and have never eaten a feeder before (Tetra Doromin and earthworms only)

Try Krill, cichlid gold pellets, carnivore pellets, earthworms. Ya that oscar should be quite larger by now. My oscar is about 10" and hes not quite a year old yet.

Oh Twisted what kind of pike cichlid is that in your pic is that a real species? That color is amazing!
