I once read an article (I can't find it now to link) that said fish have ten times the number of endorphins as humans and thus don't feel physical pain. Endorphins don't suppress all feeling, just the electromagnetic signal the body uses to convey pain to the brain. IF that article was correct, your fish wouldn't feel the injuries it has as long as it can function normally.

I have a spotted Raphael catfish that I have had for about 10 years, 5 ish years ago, I redid some decor in the tank he was in and he wad up inside a rock and sat in the kitchen sink, for a day and a half while the rock dried out. When I went to put the rock away, the catfish fell out, dry, yet still breathing. I put him back in the tank and over the course of the next month or so, the entire back half of his body died, fell off, and regrew in its entirety. He is now about 7" long. Its possible for all of it to regrow. Just use your discretion.

Something similar happened to me once with my raphael, those things really are tanks. Back on subject if he can eat and swim I see no reason not to give him the chance to recover.

Flushing fish is NOT a way to "put down" anything. That is just a tortuous cop out, avoiding all responsibility to perform humane euthanasia...worse than killing them straight out.

NO one forgot the OP. All comments have been directly related to it, including the statement "I found him half eaten", and a photo supporting the accuracy of that description.
Give facts, ask question, get responses. Very simple.
Yours just happens to be the worst one so far.

Lol are you kidding me? Flushing it or poisioning it your killing it. Your mumbo jumbo contradicts itself. Killing it is denying it the chance to live. That is inhumane. Please do me a favor an let your close love ones know that next time you have a serious injury an wind up in the hospital to please not give you a chance to fight and live but administer you some rat poison. Same concept.

No the post wasn't about if he hold kill it nor your personal feelings. It was will it live and how can he help it live. If he wanted to kill it or know your feelings he would have posted how do I kill this dumb fish and is it humane to allow him the chance to live.

^ appropriate name.

I actually never described my personal feelings about "flushing" fish. That could get me an infraction.
What you read there, was an opinion.
I never called the fish "dumb". You did.

Human medical interventions are so totally irrelevant.

I haven't slammed the original poster or his decisions.
Other ppl posted how to treat the fish, so that's been covered.
Bye.

I say give the fish a shot. I mean why not? It obviously hasn't given up, and based off of some of the stories here there's a good chance he could recover. All he needs is clean water, a little salt, heat and time. Keep in mind if he does survive he may need more care than your other fish when feeding.
