Can fish suffer from necrosis? For some reason I though that was skin cells only? Although I guess from what I just read that it can effect plants?

Anything can suffer from necrosis. :) It simply is the premature death of cells, doesn't matter if it's plant or animals or fungi or even microbes. Doesn't matter if it's skin cells or vascular tissue or whatever either.

But yes, a better look at the black would make it a lot easier to identify. Also where exactly is it black? In the flapping piece of meat dangling off the guy, or in the wound itself?

im not trying to be a jerk , but that hunk of meat flappin in the breeze is doing him no good long term or short term, , time for real deal holyfield here, take him out the tank and chop that off , its not gonna be a fun task but that flapper is gonna make his would heal weird and its waving in the wind just waiting to get hung up or get sucked in an intake,

im routing for this lil bugger but I cant see how that hunk is gonna do him any good , and i realize re injuring him isnt the plan either but long term that thing is gonna make a weird wound even worse and most likely slow his long term return to as normal a life as he can

im sure someone will poo poo my thoughts but I personally would like to see this guy succeed

would cotterization help? im not sure on spellin but you know ... heat metal on wound ... if im wrong im wrong but i am trying to help
 
No need to worry about that hunk of fin it fell off. This is like the second time it has happened before and it just falls off. Here's a pic of him tonight. Not too clear but you can see the chunk is off.
