sometimes oscars just have tantrums, kind of like kids. how long has it been since he ate and what do you mainly feed him? how big is he and what size tank is he in? what are the other fish other than SDs?

if none of the other fish are acting weird it is likely just a behavioral thing with the oscar. maybe hes upset if you added some new fish recently, or if hes not getting as varied a diet as he would like. sometimes they just act out.

Haha I know what you mean...mine is much more dramatic then other cichlids I have kept.
The tank is a 72g and there are only 3 silver dollars with him. I am trying to get rid of the silver dollars, and only keep the oscar.

About 82-84 F. I lowered it down to 78-80 F. Think that will help?

do you normally keep the temp that high? it could be, usually you want the temp around 78 degrees and if its higher than normal there may not be enough oxygen in the water. if its always been high that's probably not the cause though.

I have 2 Oscars. I think one is female, I call her Jagger and one is male, I call him Jax. They seem to want to mate. Ever since, I've had nothing but problems. They don't produce any eggs and I really don't want them to but that's what I have. I bought them both at the same time from a pet store about 1 1\2 years ago. About 6 months ago they started acting up. Now more than not, they go through this mouth tug of war, then swimming around each other. Yet they sleep together on the same side of the tank. My tank is a 75 gallon set up. I usually keep my temp at 79 but my digital thermometer broke and when I bought a new one it reads 82. I do not have the heater on. My water perimeters are 0 amonia 0 nitrite and 10 nitrate. I change the water about 25 % once a week. I have a 100 gallon marineland filter canister. My perimeters have always been good. For the past week in half, the two oscars will not eat. They are not breathing hard, they do not have any fungus on the gills, they do not have any blotches or red lines on their body. Can't tell about pop because they have not eaten. I've tried different foods to no avail. During the day they swim around and look healthy and fine but in the middle of the night, Jax, the larger one...freaks out. Bashed his head against the glass, runs around the tank from right to left then goes back to sleep. I even tried putting a towel on the back of the tank. Any ideas? I'm going to try some melafix and see if that will help, I know it won't do any harm. But I'm worried and need some suggestions.

Oscars are super moody and individualistic fish. Some of them just seem to like thrashing around their tank. If you end up with an oscar like this, chances are it has nothing to do with the water parameters and is just your oscar's personality. Sometimes they will do it to protest a new decoration or change of food, etc. Sometimes it is for no apparant reason. Best thing to do is remove any decor he could injure himself on. Glass heaters should 100% be switched with plastic. Lid should have weights on it as well.
I used to have an oscar that did this once in a while, for no reason, would throw "tantrums".
Here is a video

Edit: just realized this is an old thread. M Mila you should make a new thread for your issue instead of posting in old one, this one is 10 years old and it will confuse people commenting. Thanks
