My oscar has taken a beating from my JD. My JD has never been this aggresive to my oscar before. He has taken a good chunk outta his tail, and now it is rotting. He wont eat, and I dont want him to die. He is my favorite fish. What can I do to help him?!?:(

my jd did the same to one of mine it killed it in the end you have to get him out of the tank and treat him if its not to bad salt can clear it up but you must use use table salt, which can conmtain lots of iodine and lacks many trace elements including potassium aquarium salt is spot on about 1 tablespoon per ten gallons. try that first it cheap then go down the medications, melafix, maracyns, etc, ect but you have to get him out of that tank as i said my JD just kept on and on.

and RIP Syd Barrett:thumbsup:

I thought that it was not a good thing to use table salt in the tank. And, can I leave him in the tank he is in now or do I have to take him out. I dont have a very big tank to put him in. He is not a huge oscar yet, but I want him to be as comfy as possible. I hate my hubby's damn JD.

Sorry that should have read do not use table salt, which can conmtain lots of iodine and lacks many trace elements...... etc etc my typing sucks:cry: thats why i go on to say aquarium salt is spot on. You can try it but i tryed it and the jd just kept on and on he hated that fish i took him out cured him put him back next day looked like he had had his tail cut off.

his tails already rotting, id jump to melafix combined with pimafix.

if the tail wound was fresh id use the salt as a prevetnative.

I have added the salt, went and got melafix and added that too. Man, that stuff smells terrible! I have never used this stuff before. It said to remove the activated carbon in the tank, so I removed the filter. Was I right in doing this? Also, my oscar has not eaten in 3 days, and I have tried to get him to eat all of his favorite food. Man, this really sucks! I heard it was damn near impossible to kill an oscar, but all of a sudden, I don't know. How long can a fish go without eating?

Salt lessens the number of pathogens in the water. For example very few, perhaps only one or two groups, of freshwater bacteria tolerate aquarium salt well. Its a simple cheap and natural way to cure fish. The melafixis good it made from tea tree oil i have posted this before have a look its not a mirical cure but it will realy help.

As I said before he won’t be happy till he is removed just look at it as you have had a kick in and a man comes in gives you some pain killers bandages you up then puts you back in the room with the idiot that just beat you up. He looks at you and beats you up again.

A Healthy large Oscar can easily go a week without food. i would not recomend this but they can.

a large fat healthy oscar an easily go weeks without food

Do like I've been doing with my oscar I got that was all torn up, I'm sure you've seen the thread. He's doing much better now, just do daily water changes + melafix + pimafix + aquarium salt daily. This works great :)
