Oscar help, please anyone?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey I'd say most everyone on here has had too big of fish in too small of tank at one point or another, my O's came in a thirty where they lived for far too long, they're loving their 125 now though. As I'm sure you know they'll be too big for that 30 as well in a mater of months.

haha yeah we'll see how they are by the end of the summer my dad has kept 2 oscar in 30gallons before so i'm gonna go by his advice by the end of the summer since he's been keeping fish for quite some time, hopefully i can convince him to upgrade when they outgrow and maybe add some tank mates ;)

also my two are either male and female or two females, still not sure as you cant tell by looking at them and the one batch of eggs wasn't fertilised. but if they are both male it's likely that unless they get some serious room they wont do well together.

i'm really not sure when i first got them they were literially the best of friends always doing everything together literially swimming the same way they never ever had any problem whats so ever until they started getting really big i think it's more of a territorial issue in such a small tank and they get real real real crazy when i feed them i think it's just lack of space lol

they were both doing more than just fine until these past 2 days i guess they are fed up with each other until i can move them lol

hey bassmaster: how big are your 2 oscar and what size tank are they in, in your dorm room?

I need this info so I can help you decide as to what to do before you head home and on the trip there. getting close to the end of the semester? will you be returning to the same school? Please advise.

Are you planning on putting the injured or non injured into the non heated tank?
How big are these fish?
Having seen what an Oscar can look like in a 75gal by himself and what one can look like in a 30 gal . . . I would recommend an upgrade from the 30g by the end of the summer.
Just cuz I am curious, how long did your dad have the fish that he kept in a 30 gal in that tank?
Are you planning on putting them back in the 10gal to take them back to school in the fall or leaving them with your dad?

Putting either of them in the recycling bin you run the risk of it jumping out, and moving it back and forth for feeding would do more damage than just not feeding it.
Hate to say it but it may be best to give one up as they're only being upgraded to a 30g. Os get big quickly and pretty soon you'll have the same issue there as in the 10g.

agree completely

either way your oscar will be fine just put something on top so it doesnt jump out. colder temps for s short period will just make him move less and eat less. I wouldnt feed him at all though until the move
