Oscar I.D.

Unless it was purchased as such I wouldn't think it could be anything but Ocellatus. Its not like they have other species of Astronotus floating around in local stores being sold as Oscars for $8. To quote Dr. Cox "If you hear hoofbeats, think horsie not zebra." I'm not saying its not possible, just playing the odds.

Well I think sometimes small lfs does not know what they are selling for example: once i saw a bunch of 2" kelberi p bass along with some monos and I think some orinos not sure and all of them were selling at the same price as "lukanani p bass"........of course next day all of them were gone they told me that somebody got all of them..... Because of course they were cheap...
My oscar was with a bunch of tiger, long fin and albino oscar all of them almost the same size and same price 8$ and I think there is 2 more like mine .... As I said before I don't know if this is a tiger oscar or not but I seem some pic of the variant Astronotus Crassipinnis - "Fat" Oscar I think I saw some guys and vendors here sell them as Brazilian oscar but once again not sure!!!!

I picked up a Oscar similar to this at not my lfs but a store I was working near. I was hoping it was mislabeled and I got some kind of rare or wild caught oscar. I really liked the patterned and colors but unfortunately every day he looks more and more just like a regular tiger oscar and his yellow is almost completely changed to orange. Its strange that these oscars were breed to have the distinct orange markings and now we all want the wild look. anyways I hope you have better luck with yours then I did with mine.
