ok, so there is this 65 gallon tank at my big al's, but its footprint is like 20" thick, and 36 inches long or something like that. anyways, could i keep an oscar in it with some tankmates. if so, what kind of tankmates?

sorry I disagree.... I grew my Oscar to 13" in that same 65 gallon. Yes I know its only 3 feet but its 18" wide which gives him some more comfort in turning and swimming back and forth the tank. I eventually moved him to his own 55 not because the tank was to small but just because I wanted to put something else in that tank. 65 I would not put anything else at all. One Oscar can stay there. If he gets like super huge one day then maybe move him. Just my opinion.

i belive you could house an oscar happily in that aquarium, i have kept many, and they need the width like in your tank more than length in 4' tanks, so your 65 would be perfect, though i would keep him alone in the tank
