I would like to add an Oscar to my tank setup (probably it will be a 220g) and the Oscar will be about 3" in size. There will be other fish of course (Aro, pBass, flag tail). These other fish I already have in a smaller tank and they do not seem to destroy the plants.

How would an oscar behave in a planted tank (not a very heavily planted tank). Is it a bad idea to put an oscar with plants? Will he destroy the whole setup when growing up?

as the oscar gets bigger it will rearrange things around the tank, and probably uproot the plants...I would recommend against it

I have seen a couple sparsely planted tanks with oscars that worked, but from my experience with large O's, it probably wouldn't work for most people (unless the two I've kept were just particularly destructive individuals).

I would recommend trying it - with a backup plan at hand. Many Oscars do well in planted setups. They're just big, curious cichlids. Not guaranteed to destroy plants. Likely, but not guaranteed.
