Yet another story of an oscar jumping out of a tank. He's very easy to spook, heck he'll even startle himself at times. Might not be quite all there in the head.

He was only out of the tank for 30 seconds or so before I was able to get back in. He's 13" and in a 75g alone. He has a few nasty cuts, but otherwise appears to be unharmed. I'm sure his slime coat is probably a little damaged from his 'adventure'.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what I should do next...? I do have Melafix and Pimafix available and can get Stress Coat tomorrow morning if needed.

He's currently pouting in his corner, but is upright and moving a bit. Poor thing's probably scared out of his mind.

I run salt at one rounded table spoon per five gallons all the time. I hardly ever have any parasite or infection problems. If something gets hurt or shows any sine of disease I add a little extra (like an extra 5 table spoons in a 150g) and things normally clear up fast. I can't remember the last time I used any king of medication. Never had good luck with most of the meds anyway.

EDIT: I also use stress coat.

Poor oscar , I bet it did scare him, I am glad that he is alive though , I lost a platinum veil tail oscar a while ago do too him jumping out of the pond.

make sure you close up any gaps that your lid has or might have to set something on top of your lid to keep him in

as far as his cuts I normal use aquarium salt at the same rate as Caz88 mentioned and it works.
I have heard people using melafix as well with good results I hope this helps and keep us posted

LID MAN GET A LID! even if you have to use tinfoil to cover the top in the mean time

I used this some, years ago. Make sure you follow instructions exactly. Be cautious if you have any cat fish in the tank. Some of them don't react well to it. If you have something for a hospital or dip tank it might be safer for the rest of your fish.

I did have a lid and picked up a new one today. It hadn't been sufficiently weighted down before. Believe me, I don't think it's budging now. lol.

Thank you for all of the advice. He's completely alone, so no need for me to worry about cats.

Sorry to hear about your oscar Cakilla. I bet he was beautiful, I've never seen a platinum veil tail before.

The salt alone is working well, his cuts are healing up nicely. He was already begging me for food yesterday. ^^

Good to hear he is getting better! There might still be some differing opinions on using salt all the time. I can't recommend it enough, for most fish. I think most people, that have used it for any length of time, would say the same.

I had my bigger oscar get so excited about eatinglast week, that he literally jumped out when I opened the hood and landed right on the floor. I immediately said "oh *****", dropped the pellets, grabbed him with a firm grip with both hands and placed him right back in the tank. He layed on the bottom for about 20 secs to get his bearing back and then started swimming normally. He was out between 5-10 secs at the most, but boy were we both scarred. I think I took more damage than him, because his dorsil fin left me two nice slices in the palm of my handand I didn't notice a lick on him thank god..........
