Lutinos do not always have black eyes. I also have a Lutino red that looks just like the one pictured.
The tallest man in recorded history was almost 10’ tall… that does not mean we can fairly say “people get up to 10’ tall”… The largest official recoding for an Oscar I’ve ever come across was 17” in Lake Okeechobee (Florida) in a fishing competition, but it only weight 5.?? Lbs which seems light for a 17“ Oscar…
I have 3 Oscars that have never been in a small tank, have lived in quality water conditions and have been fed a quality diet for over 5 years… they have been in a 300 gal (6’ round Rubbermaid) for 5 years… the largest (female) is 13.5” and the two smaller (both males) are 11.5” (this is from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail fin).
I firmly believe that maximum size is determined by genetics, then restricted in poor conditions… I firmly disagree that most Oscars have the potential of getting 14”+… In my experience Oscars not restricted by poor diet/conditions will get 10~13”… with slightly larger not unheard of… but far from “the norm”…
How many of us know a guy that’s almost 7’ tall… but how many of us are 7’ tall… slightly larger than the norm is common… but in a couple hundred years we’ve only had one ten footer…
No zoo in the US has an 18”+ Oscar… Aquariums who have something special like the largest of a species in recorded history… they let people know…

are oscars a massive fish? i think not. i fish for bass (Sm and Lm) and a 16-17" fish would weigh anywhere from 2.2-2.8lbs. 5lbers are 21-22"+. i honestly don't think they weight that much. i think i have heard of a 3lb one, but i have doubts.
I'm not familiar with typical fishing weights... my 11.5" Oscar weights 3.56 lbs...
