i got a oscar for my 75, its 3-4" and im having some problems. when i first put him in, he hid all day, except for when i feed him, then he came out and ate, but now he hides all day and i think he has ick. little white dots all over him, i tried to move him into a 10 to heal him but i couldnt catch him. now he hides all the time. i tried feeding him but he doesnt come out. when every i try and catch him again he hides in the piece of driftwood i have. so i added salt to the tank, i ran out and only had enough for 30 gallons, im going to get more, and the temp in my tank is 84. should i raise the temp more? btw all the other fish in the tank are ick free idk whats going on. every time i get an oscar it doesnt do good.

I would check ammonia and nitrite and do a 50% water change. Raise the temp to 86 and add 2 tablespoons of salt for every ten gallons of tank water. Treat for a week only replacing the salt if you do a water change. If the previous two toxins are present then that is most likely your problem. If they are at 0ppm then I would start to look for a bully, how big are the bass?

He could be stressed by the other fish, that can cause ick.

all the fish are about the same size. im thinking its from stress. maybe just a new tank, i dont think there is a bully cause when i first put him in the other fish just looked at him, the only on that really did anything was the firemouth which only flaired his gills as the oscar swam by. thanks for the help

No sense in moving him if he has ich the tank has ich.. Other fish may not get it, though the Tank has it.. So do the ich treatment.. Like your doing keep the temp up and the salt.. Treat it as you usually do..

Ich has to go thorugh it's life cycle.. Should die out in a couple weeks..

Strictly my opinion.. Others may differ :)

do a 40 to 50% water change. that alone may help. also there is a medication called aquarisol, i have had good results with this combo. but there are many other way to treat ick. good luck.

im a little ify about the 50% water change, last time i did a big one all my fish got stressed

I would stick with your regular chnge amount if you are scared of the stress.. And just do it more often like stated.. most do water changes every day with ich.. So I woulod do that :)

My opinion as always and also as always others may differ

If its just stress I would keep the lights off as much as possible and leave the fish alone until they settle in. I would still treat the ich by raising the temp/ adding salt/ water chages.

I used to do 50-80% water changes on a weekly basis. the fish may have been stressed during the water change but within 20 minutes after I was done all color was back to normal. I don't think 50% would stress them out too much to be detrimental and in fact would probably be better for them in the long run. :)

if you're still not comfortable with that though you can do smaller water changes more frequently like Tongue33 said. :)
