Oscar Progess and Updates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The only word I'm seeing there is "almost" ;) :p

In all seriousness though... How do you find time for anything with all those setups? That sounds like a lot of work.. Good effort! :)
All but 4 hospital tanks are on a shared automatic water change system. In the summer my indoor tanks are also plumbed to 3 of my out door ponds and I have very good filtration. The enclosures on the shared line require almost no work. Two or three hrs a week of tinkering becaise I am OCD is all that usually goes into it. Hospital tanks are biologically isolated so the have less volume and require more work

Kittiee Katt Kittiee Katt I would like to mention also that if you have multiple enclosures that share water water YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO NOT QUARENTINE NEW FISH OR PLANTS.

I've been looking into that type of system for future use and that's the only major drawback. If you put in an unquarantined fish and it gets sick that ALL of your tanks are now infected because they all use the same water.

Which is why I have 4 hospital tanks. And if my hospitals are full I will pull a spare from storage. NOTHING goes straight to my main line

Do you get a lot of plants from the wild or something?

No but I dont take chances with anything. It would cost thousands of dollars to treat the whole system and some of my fish are rather expensive.

The fish I pay for are Chinese imported fancy GF and japanese koi. I dont buy that hillbilly looking american stuff. I get alot of unwanted fish that people give to me though. Those fish almost always have something going on because they usually are not well cared for.

If I owned my own home I'd like to do something like that. I may be bugging you for some pointers when I eventually own a home. :)

I rarely buy new fish (now that I'm not caring for my tanks myself I don't buy new fish at all) but when I do I quarantine everything. I have more quarantine tanks than display tanks and that's how I like it. :D

20 quarantine tanks all ready to go at any moment sounds like a good number for moderate to large fish room depending on the size of the fish, how often you get new fish, various factors.

AHHHHHHH

9AM and nerves are a wreck. Everything is ready to take her in. Bucket is cleaned out for her trip. Nets are on the stand by. Twenty more min and will fill the bucket and catch her and Catness, and off we go to the Wet Spot.
