Do black Tiger Oscars change coloartion as they age? The O i have is becoming more and more grey as he gets bigger. The O is abouyt 4 inches atm. The fish store said the black coloration would come back once he was settled in the new tank and stress was gone. I do not think this is stressed induced. He also does not have much of the orange/red tiger "stripes" like most do I have seen. Did I get a poorly breed Oscar?

Water temp? What's your water parameter? Tank size? Tank mates? And what exactly do you feed him?
As far as my experience goes with oscar whether its an albino red, red, albino tiger, tiger, wild or lemon. The older they get, the more the color is suppose to show. My baby red I use to have in the past was plain and very light orange, as it grew...it turned bright red! Either way, list those things on top and I will try to help you as soon as possible. :)

oscar colors get better as they mature, but they go through alot of color changes along the way just be patience and as stated above make sure your conditions are good.

When I first got my black oscar at 2 1/2 inches, his stripes were practically white. Now, at 9", the stripes have darkened to a strange dark grey off-color. Sure, many color schemes get more vivid with maturation. But this might not be one that does. Not bad genes, but it might be part wild type oscar. Doubt stress is the factor here.

Yeah I will try to get a pic...more than likley a video since its so much easier to capture them without blur. Temp is 79-80 degrees, 75 gallon tank, tank mates are a belated blue acara (ran to death by the oscar), 3 little clown loaches, a pleco, an a marble colored catfish. The water is all good, I add cycle an prime on a weekly basis, and do water changes 1-2 times a month.

The grey coloration started out towards the top of his body and has spead to all of his body almost in "tiger fasion"...all other TO I have seen that were black, had jet black body with red/orange stripes. I got dots/splothces.

mine did the same thing. he is now bright colored. took about a month. he is now 12'' long my red is 16'' long going to go to 250 tank in December.. hell be fine
