Oscar question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
cool vids how big is that tank. its very nice. the oscar looked good very active. couldnt see a whole lot of color but i know my 9 inch oscar shows color constantly in dif shades from black to light light olive almost tan. i could post pics but dont wanna steal the thread

Thank you, he/she is extremly active. Thank you about the tank comment also. I walk near the tank it comes out to great...pretty awesome. I wish I had gotten it when it was a little tike, its 4 inchs now.

The tank is a 75 gallon w/ a penguin 350 and emp 400 filters; in about 2 months I will have 2 emp 400's (ones growing bacteria in a diff tank). Current tank mates for this O are 3 2 inch clown loaches (hopefully not a snack later), an unidentifed 5-6 catfish(see catfish topic lol), and an albino common pleco <3 it. Belated JD & Blue Acara...

This brings me to my next question. I have been thinking about trying to get a breeding pair of oscars, thoughts? I know its almost impossible to sex without venting....so i would have to get several O's an hope for a pair up. This feesible for a 75 gallon with the loachs and cat? what all is entelled in breeding, just to breed, not to save them to sale. Maybe one day down the road keep one when they get old an about to die lol.

Everyone please feel free to input on the 1st question also...I am beginning to think he is fine just does not have much red/orange going on and he grey is a normal thing.

Thank you for all the feedback so far.

My Oscars sometimes show these dull patches at times throughout the day, I don't think it's anything to worry about.

same. somtimes depends on time of day. closer to night my oscar gets alot more vibrant but during the morning he seems a little bit faded. also with the few oscars i've had .. its stress from being in a new tank. all of them got a little stressed for the first couple of weeks of being in a new tank so they started to turn bland and greyish but once they settled in the colors came back out. other then the time of day stuff
