I was at Meijer's last night to get a new filter for my tank, and I decided to check out these huge oscars that they have had there for years. Come to find out, they have hole in the head. Hell, not just one hole, but several holes in the head. Made me madder than hell!
I used to work at this store, but not in the pet dept. I just cant stand to see an animal suffer, so I sent a e mail to my former boss explaining what was wrong with the fish to see if some one will help these poor guys. I doubt if anyone will, which pisses me off even more. What sucks the most is that these 2 oscars are display fish (not for sale, so I could not get them and try to help them) But, if anyone were to go into the store and want to buy a fish from there, it would be a total turn off. Sorry to go on a rant here, but how can a store have a pet dept if no one is going to take the time to properly take care of the pets they are trying to sell?!? All I can do is cross my fingers and hope the e mail gets sent to where it needs to go so these poor fish can get the attention that they deserve.:(

I had a similar situation happen at Wal Mart.
I emailed their corporate headquarters (from their website) with a nice long nasty email (fairly polically correct) and they called me within 2 days and let me know that they had hired someone to correct the problem, which was VERY bad ich. Sure enough, the next time I went in there, the fish looked better.

If i were you I would just go directly to the store manager. If no success there contact the corporate office. If no luck there maybe some animal rights organization could get the fish the help they deserve. Good Luck top you and the fish.

I hope your former boss is a cool guy and helps the fish

LOL! Actually, my former boss is a she, and I think that she will get some help for the oscars, seeing how she is my drinking buddy, and my ol man used to date her some 25 yrs ago. lol........I shall call her tomarrow. Thought about sending an e mail to the main boss, but I dont want to get anyone in trouble. I know the dude who runs it, but he was not there at the time. I will see what happens. Hopefully something good. Hell, maybe I can get the fish if no one wants to take the time to help em....we will see. My fingers are crossed.

It really bugs me to see any fish with HITH. All people have to do is look after their fish properly and they aouldn't have problems like that. Weekly maintenance does wonders to keep fish healthy

I have written to wal mart on a monthly basis and they never take action. We have seen tanks with 20 dead fish sucked up against the filters and the others often using it for a buffet as well as swimming in the water their fallen commrades have been decomposing in. I hate to see fish or any other creature in a crappy situation. I am glad there are people like you out there willling to take a stand for them.
