Hi everyone,
I was in Petsmart a few weeks ago and noticed a 6" red oscar that was pouting on the bottom of a tank. He was obviously best up pretty bad by former tankmates. Torn fins, missing scales, generally rough condition and not active or eating. I decided to wait and see what happened to him. Same last week. Yesterday I went looking for him and he was gone. They had moved him into the back into a 20h with 2 other trashed oscars and some ich ridden fancy goldfish. His color was flushed and he looked worse. i asked about him and they ended up giving him to me to try to heal.
I put him in my 29 gal to heal. Its a heavily planted natural tank that my convict fry are growing in. I figured he might be coaxed to eat if they were left with him. I added aquarium salt to help him heal. Filtration is 2 sponges. Temp 78, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, 7.6 ph. He settled in quickly and was 150% more active than I had seen him in the last 2 weeks.
I'm thinking of adding an old AC50 with sponges to help filter this guys mess. He still hasn't eaten. I've tried frozen bloodworms, cichlid pellets and flake late last night.
Any ideas or suggestions? I'm thinking just let him settle in and go from there. Ill post a pic soon!
Thanks for any help/advice!

oscars can be particularly moody so, after the turmoil he's been through it might take him a week or 2 to start acting and eating normally. Just ride it out...offer him some food everyday and remove it after about 5-10 min. if he doesn't eat it. Eventually he will start eating....unless he gets full off the convict fry
