Oscar rescue story!

Hey guys.. I thought I had updated this thread with the news but I guess not..

I tried my best to help the Oscar recover but quickly realized I was in over my head. The wounds from the Goby healed but his tail seemed to get worse.. stuff was falling off it which I thought was healing but wasn't sure. I went into work and talked to my bosses about it and they both agreed to bring him to them, or to the Big Al's near me. BA's was closer when I got home so I took him there.

I was really upset to bring him to a LFS.. especially since that was what I was trying to avoid in the first place. But I thought his fin was just nipped... which I was fine with. Adding aquarium salt and doing lots of WCs wwasn't an issue.. the issue was battling an illness which may kill him anyway, and I can't afford that right this second... beyond getting Melafix/Pimafix that is.

After returning him I went into work and told my bosses what had happened and they offered to let me take home the big Oscar that came in. with no money down... The only catch was that he has a deformity, and I am fine with that seeing as most my animals are rescues anyways!

The deformity doesn't seem to bother him and there is absolutely no sign of illness. I ended up taking him home for 50% of what they had him listed for because of that and because I work there of course lol... I am paying it by Wednesday-Thursday hopefully. I'm just happy I was able to take him before somebody else.

Here he is!

His deformity is on the other side unfortunately so you can't see it in that picture.. but it's just his side sticking out more than the other side.. he was like that for a while (was in the store for a bit before I took him home) and I took care of him ect so I know his behavior hasn't changed really and that this isn't some PRESENT issue.. it appear he has had it for a long time, if not for life and it causes him little to no problems!

pooping still ect, the only thing is that he isn't eating which is normal anyways.

So.. this Oscar rescue story turned out bad for one, but fortunately another found it's way into my care. I have taken steps to ensure he is healthy, such as treating with half dose Pima/Mela for both the Oscar and Goby (just in case) and I have aquarium salt in there (about 55 gallons worth, instead of the full 65 - 68 gallons.. just so I'm not over treating!)

Thanks for all the support guys, it was a tough decision sending the first Oscar to a LFS.. where I don't know who will get him ect... but I feel it was the right choice for me and that's what counts.

Thanks again everybody!
