if you suspect infection you can treat with metroplex, or neoplex. if neoplex pay close attention to directions. used properly as directed will not harm bio filter or most delicate fish.

no problems ever with pleco and oscars. clean pristine water best action for a regular wound, Oscars fast healers. long as not infected can add melafix and pimafix as a precautionary treatment. Keep in mind they do not cure anything but are like adding neosporin on a wound. if infected will need to use something stronger.

Neosporin and melafix are nothing alike.

you are missing what i am saying, I am in no way suggesting you put neosporin in the tank, I am only making the connection that both act as bacterial inhibitor. good for cut that is not infected. one is for people. one is for fish.

neither is a disinfectant.

The wound seems to already be infected...the aforementioned fuzzyness suggests a fungal attack.

From the pic i would agree with that. tho bacterial can be fuzzy to, I would go ahead and treat with the afor mentioned treatment after doing a 90% or fin level water change.

we are going to have to agree to not agree on this one Wail, My point was to make a statement about its uses. And point out the practical use using something we use as an example, you want to treat an infection with neosporin more power to you, I am going to a doc and getting some antibiotics.

I looked it up, and yes I am wrong on it being an antibacterial, but the practical application still apply.

my apologize.

I also found it interesting that its use has been implicated in sulfa resistant bacteria such as MRSA. Interesting. If not for this debate we just had I would not have known this, so thank you. :)
