Oscar + Rubbermade = Ok???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've used them a few times, like when my 55 cracked and for quarantine and such. Just make sure they are the thick walled ones as said before, they do bow quite a bit. Make sure to rinse it really well to get out any residuals.

I do have to agree about not buying a fish you can't house yet. Wait until you have a home for it because remember the more you move it the more you stress it. Every time I've had to use one, the fish get freaked out because they cant see out of the sides for a while and then they have clear glass with your face right up on them.

no problems from the rubbermaids many people use them as sumps in reef tanks. but personally im inclined to tell you to wait until you have a proper home for your fish. its not a bad thing to have the urge to buy a fish, but it is a bad thing when you dont know when to hold that urge back.

i dont know about oscar compatibility but i think its feedings and time that controls a fish growth not tanksize, kinda like how the rich people's children arent bigger then the poor(because of house size).

Sure you could use the rubbermaid, but just wait till youre readyto stock the big tank and buy them then.

:ROFL: and yet, your right. but at the same time, when i visit other countries with poverty and small housing, they are mostly shorter, skinnier, smaller. because again, your right. lol the feedings is the reason... so the people tend to be under-grown. in America we load up on food so more people here are relatively taller, bulkier, bigger bone structure generally. that is IF we eat. we also got freedom, so lot of people here are small anyway. the size of the house is meager coincidence.

Go to Tractor Supply or similar store that sells supplies for farm animals, and get yourself a 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank made for watering livestock for about $60. I've kept hundreds of dollars of discus and other fish in mine for months at a time. These things are great!

I agree, When my oscar gets to 7" i'm going to upgrade him to a 100g rubbermaid stock tank. They work well and are very reasonable pricing. Here is a thread on them, http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146037 Only thing is you might want to insulate them to give the heater a break.
