When you are saying 6...something, doesn't register. Could it be lower than 6? If so It sounds like your water is too acidic. If water parameters are bad the fish will be steressed and will lead to disease. If there are other Oscars in that tank, chances are that the bio-load is causing the balance of your aquarium to crash...thus the acidic water.

There are a couple things that could be wrong. The white Feces could be the first signs of the fish having "Hexamita" which is an intestinal parasite affecting the lower intestine. Oscars ar especially prone to it. To treat it you need to do a combined exposure in both the food and the water with a drug called metronidazole. the fish should be removed from the tank and placed in a quarantine tank. In a pinch a 10 or 15 gallon tank will suffice. Follow the instructions for the drug treatment.

One other thing it could possibly be is constipation...but since another fish died of the same disease, I would say it's the latter. Get the fish to another tank to treat or you will loose the others. You can get metronidazole at one of the local pet stores.

The salt won't hurt...but it won't help either.

Fish Fecal Disorders

Symptoms / Cause / Treatment

A). The vent or anal area is inflamed, and feces are often slimey. The feces contain small, thin worms. This is the larvae of livebearing nematodes. Treat with: Praziquantel -or- Paracide-D.

If not,

B). The vent does not appear to be inflamed, but no fecal matter can be expressed completely, and is dragged around like a long slimey string. The intestines are affected with either: a). Bacteria b). Flagellates c). Worms. Make a fecal mount to determine the problem. a). Treat with: Gentamycin -or- Sulfa 4 TMP b). & c). = Praziquantel

If not,

C). Fecal droppings are white or yellow, and slimy. Your fish is probably affected with intestinal flagellates. Nematodes can be the secondary cause. Treat with Praziquantel -or- Paracide-D.

If not,

D). When the fish remain stationary, red or brown worms hang out of the anus. The fish is affected by Callanus worms, which bear live larvae. Treat with: Praziquantel -or- Paracide-D.

If not,

E). Whitish, flat, elongated segments are seen coming from the anus. Or in fecal matter, several segments. Your fish are affected with a Tape Worm. Treat fish with Praziquantel, -or- Mix up some frozen food with Paracide-D and feed to the fish for 3-5 days.

If not,

F). The feces is long, white and stringy. The feces contain elongated eggs with champagne-cork-like covers. Your fish is affected with Capillaria Worms. Treat with: Praziquantel -or- Paracide-D.

If not,

G). The fish is bloated up, has a reduced appetite and also has clear to white feces. Your fish is affected with Hexamita. Very common in Discus and African Cichlids. Make a medicated frozen food with Metronidazole. Use 1/4 tsp. per 4 oz. of food. Feed to the fish once a day for 10 days.

80* and reccomended amount of 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons...

Actually it should be raised (about 2 degrees at a time) to 86. 80 degrees won't do a danged thing.

Do about a 25% water change............Raise temp to 82 and add aquarium salt....You say she has multiple oscars in this tank, how many and what size is the tank? White fecies usually means it has an internal stomach parasite but that can be curred with a proper diet and water changes. Your parameters sound good so it looks like your media is doing its job but a tank with multiple oscars has to be a very large tank with lots of filtration and weekly water changes are a must do to oscars are extremly messy. GoodLuck........

But wait, didn;t you catch the nitrATES at zero????
That CAN'T be right. If it IS right, it isn't good!

no exp. on kit...
