so came home from work today and my oscar has some discoloration on what seems like random spots on his body. theres no fungis and he is just laying at the bottem of the tank i did my weekly water change yesterday and he seemed fine. any idea what could be up with him

Was the water change bigger than normal? Move things around? If so he's probably just stressed and pouting. Pictures always help of discoloration, but sounds like a typical oscar to me..

The 1st thing I'd do if my fish weren't acting right is to test ammonia, nitrite adn nitrates. How big is he and how big of a tank is he in? Does he have tankmates? How long have you had him?

hes about 12-13in in a 75g tank ive had him since he was an inch his tank mates are a 17in spotted gar 6in wolf 6 in leperonic 5 in feather fin cat 7 in pike its more like a discoloration its odd i did about a 15% water change yesterday and another 10% today can figure it out

Whoa, that tank is stocked to the gills! Those are teeny tiny water changes for a tank that's past overstocked. Do you have a test kit? It's really important that you test the water. I bet nitrates are out of control.

With that high of nitrates I would say do 2-50% WC's a week, but with the size of your fish you probably should be doing 4-25% WC's a week. Use your test kit to figure out a WC schedule, so you can keep your nitrates below 20ppm. If you dont IMO your going to have a lot more trouble down the road than just a lethargic oscar. His spots might have come from the toothy critters you have. Just get those nitrates down with WC's.

yeah do aa 50% WC and montitor the nitrates. but in the long run you need a bigger tank (or an additional one to seperate out your stock, I still recomend a bigger one)

check craigslist for your area. a 125 would be a good additional tank or as always the bigger you can find for cheap, the better.
