Don't feed fedders, they don't have much nutrition in them, and they carry disease. Use a good pellet like Hikari cichlid gold..they like it, and it grows them good too. You can feed them things like shrimp, prawns and salmon from the grocery store as treats...earthworms are well liked too.
Some people raise their feeders if that what they want to feed them, in raising the feeders, you won't get the disease....but definately, they need a good pettet to get everything they need.

It will do for a few meals. Get a good pellet, as stated above for a staple diet. My fish all do fine on a home made diet and never get live, unless they eat one of their tankmates.
mix it up w/ variety. for instance new life spectrum pellets in the a.m. krill or beef heart in the p.m. see what your fish prefers but give a variety. i even give mine frozen veggies as treats along w/ nightcrawlers or adult bloodworms and the go nuts.FSM;1873005; said:
I would use the quality pellet food (NLS, Omega One, Hikari) as the staple, to go along with freeze dried krill (I do that with my smaller cichlids, using mysis instead of krill). They definitely do not need feeder fish at all.
