Hoovering south of the ham
Mbunafishkeepers thread made me think of this. I've always heard if you have an Oscar then you have an Oscar story. I would like to read some of everyones.

My friend had an Oscar kept in a tank behind a couch. If anyone sat on the far left side of the couch he would jump out because he couldn't see. Imagine your surprise!

ok my dads one for his oscar is.. umm..

he flairs at you when you walk past the tank and goes grey, he scoffs the food down as fast as he can and jumps and bangs the lid when the water has evapourated into big droplets on the lip.

Yes, it's true, if you have/had big O's you have big O stories.

I had a nice big "wild" color O that I used to hand-feed. Anyway he got to be quite the jumper, to the point where he'd almost clear the water, probably 2/3 to 3/4 out of the water on a good jump. Well of course he managed to jump all the way out on occasion (luckily only when I was feeding and could put him back).

about 7 years ago I had no clue about cichlid compatibility or really anything to do with fish keeping, so when my uncle who had no clue either asked me if i could take care of his dovii while he went on vacation I naturally said yes and a couple of days later he came and dropped it off and i tried to put it in with my big o and female rd, so i put the dovii in its bag in the tank to let it adjust to the temp before i threw it in and i soon as the bag touched the water my o hit it and practically launched it out of the tank

i had an oscar jump from my tank and when i found it after work it was so full of dust and stiff i said to myself it has no chance,no way,put it back in the tank ,had to open its mouth ,moved it around so water would pass through its gills(like you seen fishermen do) and it lived, probably not so uncommon among oscar owners.

My Oscar used to wedge itself between a piece of driftwood and the glass on the side of the tank and do backflips. I of course thought it was hilarious at the time, but looking back on it he probably had some kind of parasite or something.

Yeah when you hand feed them they like to jump up and break the surface of the water, and unavoidably end up on the floor from time to time. They have actually bitten my fingers a few times feeding them, not breaking the skin, but still giving me a good surprise  .

this is going to be a great thread:popcorn:

i always think its funny when i put my cat up to my oscars tank and he starts flaring his gills and tries to attack my cat:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

one time when i got home i found that my oscar had broke my thermometer:irked:

then there was this one time when my oscar was about 4 inches and he swam sideways to try and fit through a small hole in a rock and he almost got stuck:nilly:
