Oscar Suicide

This morning when we woke up we walked into the living room to find our albino oscar laying on the carpet. We aren't sure what happened as the only hole it could have gotten out of is next to the filter. Has this happened to anyone else?

my old 1" wide blue torpedo shark rocketed itself out of a hole next to the filter that was only 1"x1"

Sadly, yes. I've had bettas jump out of tanks that were as closed as I get get them with a HOB.
And Oscars are known for their leaping abilities, so...yeah. Sorry for your loss! Could anything in the tank have chased him around or spooked him?

We were thinking that the other oscar was chasing him around. Probably trying to prove dominance

For that exact reason, I built a heavy duty wood canopy for my tank. Looks nice and fish can't jump out!

Sorry bout your fish. My breeding pair of oscars have broke numerous lids n lights too!I've woke to lids n all in bottom of the tank many times.after readn this thread I'm getting a wooden top like another poster was talking about!!

I am getting glass tops from monster fish rescue. Tops for a 55, 20H and 75 should run under 50. Not sure exact price I wanna guess 43.

Glass lids can make a big mess in the bottom of your tank!
