Oscar tank mates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As a general rule of thumb if it can fit in the mouth it is lunch, but Oscars raised with other tank mates can be tolerant of those tank mates. Generally, if the aforementioned is followed, the Oscar is at more risk of being bullied than the other fish. Let him be the largest and/or most established and you have a coin flip on other tank mates.

My experience is they are actually a peaceful fish. Just have an "aggressive" if that's what you want to call it feeding response. There big eaters! But if you have a large enough tank you could have most any peaceful fish with an oscar!

Tank size, water quality and enough food will cool the oscars... i kept my oscar with tinfoil barbs and with other cichlids...

that sounds like petsmart advice to me i've had oscars with cats cons dovii clown knifes peacockbass firemouth texas snook even a feeder crawdad that ended up a tank mate in a hole under a log oscars would rather have a conflict in a tank with another oscar
