Oscar tank question

I have another 8x3x2 I'm switching around. Im going to do a Oscar tank. Probably going to try and find a bunch of 4-5 inch and grow them all out together. How many would you suggest could eventually work as they get bigger in a 8x3x2

That's always the real question isn't it lol I've kept a group of Oscars with peacocks and they did great with a sailfin catfish who was about 2 feet. But not sure if I wanna go that same route again.
 
I have a JD also actually who is the biggest baby ever. He's best friends with my texas which is wild lol I was thinking about moving the electric blue texas and putting the JD in the Oscar tank eventually. I have another 8x3x2 and that's only has my JD, Texas, and a school of yellowfin barbs. Such a big tank and only those fish bc my texas seems to hate anything cichlid related besides my JD so I don't think I could add Oscars to that tank it be hit or miss
 
Depending on the size of the texas the smaller oscars would be in trouble lol i had a breeding pair years ago that would not tolerate anything else in the tank.

Yeah ide have to 100% remove the texas. The JD would definitely do fine with a group of Oscars but the texas would need to go. The texas is not big at all maybe 5-6 inches but runs that tank. I had to take out my GT bc he was beating the piss out of it
 
I would look at some pimelodus ornatus to go with the oscars. Unlike most catfish they are pretty active. They can be solo but also like to be in a group like it's cousin pimelodus pictus. They go good with Oscar's as they will vacuum up all the extra food that flies out the gills as Oscar's eat. If you can get bigger ornatus as they don't grow as fast as the oscar will. Ornatus can get to about 1ft in length. They are more active than your typical catfish, but at times likes to hide so give them a place to hide in.

If I were to try it ide may have to find Oscars bigger then him off the bat.

I really like those cats with how active they are? They were good bottom cleaners for the Oscars? How many do they like to group with?
