oscar tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I believe a 75 works great as a grow out tank, but I personally wouldn't keep fish over 7" to 9" in one for life.
How many threads have we seen with the title something like "why did my fish go psycho?"
Just posing a question I wrestle with every day.
If you were in a room you could barely turn around in, would you be happy? life sentence in a closet?
Would you put a dog in that situation?
Each time I travel and see what our "tanked" fish live in, in nature, I question how I should keep them.
Some wider shots of JD habitat, makes my largest tanks look like puddles

I guess I'm gunna have to rehome or sell my o he's 8" already.

Fish will adapt. A 75g is fine for a full grown oscar.

a 50-55 gallon is the BARE minumum... It is ussuly okay if the oscar is not over avrage in size and yo have good filtration and do lots of water changes... a 75-100 gallon is ideal but a 50-55 gallon is bare minumum...

An adult oscar can hit 15". 55 gal is only 12" wide, too narrow for an adult oscar. 75 gal is 18", wide enough to house one or two oscar. A second oscar is really a compatibility issue, because if two oscars don't get along, there is no place for the weaker fish to escape.
