oscar tank

Raphael cats are good scavengers but not very active, they hide and you won't see them. Synodontis eupterus (featherfin cat) are supposed to be excellent "clean up" cats that are active and get large enough to live with a big oscar but not too large for the tank. Big pictus cats like 4-lines would work too (spotted pictus don't get as big). Bichir would be good also, especially if you plan on feeding a lot of meaty foods like market shrimp etc as they will search out and find any extra bits that your oscar will surely spread through the tank.

Why keep starting a new thread to ask the same question.

I don't see the harm if he is just in need of answers.

njackson, I suggest you get a 300-400watt heater for your tank. I'm guessing you live in NY? I bet it gets pretty cold up there, I would think a heater for your aquarium is your main concern. As far as filter you can get a hang over filter or a canister filter, totally up to you both will do fine on a I guess you got like a 65G? Just make sure you talk to your local pet store employee and ask him what exactly do you need to keep a healthy tropical tank, I'm sure he would be glad to help you out.

A hang over filter and a powerhead for a tank size that you have would do just fine with just an Oscar and another small fish. But if you want to have sparkling clean water get a canister filter and maybe a powerhead.

I live in Texas and in the summer time a heater really serves no purpose. My tank temp stays around 80F regardless with a heater or without. My heater barely comes on.....In fact it doesn't...It just sits in my aquarium...
