oscar tankmates! need help on what to choose!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oscars dont need 65 id say 50 limmit i see oscars in 75 gallon with lots more cichlids and the oscars are big ass id say i could fit 3 oscars comfortably in 75 with good care filteration but i dont cause its harder to take care of. so ima prob get a palmas bichir or delhezi with 1 tiger oscar 3-4 inch long and juvinile bichirs 2 or 3. god you say you need such big tanks but reality i see people on youtube with 100 gallons that are way to overstocked! but im not one of those peopel so il get 1 tiger oscar and 1-3 bichirs down in there and yes chances are it will work id say 88% it will due to many people doing it and with succes!

I would not do a bichr. My 14 inch Oscar would eat a bichir in a heartbeat. Oscars eat worms so why would they not go for a bichr. Even thou Bichirs get a foot the oscar will eat it. My Oscar does Okay with some giant danios and a rainbow fish that schools with the danios. just do not get slow moving fish. one time I put my three spot gourami in with my oscar and the oscar almost ate the gourami. luckily i was watching them when it happened so i could put the net in between the fish.

Just because someone has done it doesn't mean it should be done. I'm relatively new here (although a long time lurker), but if people are telling you you shouldn't do it, I wouldn't do it.

i would not put 1 oscar in anything less than a 75 gallon aquarium. well maybe with the exeption of a few schooling fish.

If you overstock your aquariums to that extreme your fish will die you know? Well if you do 3 Oscars in a 75 when they die (witch they will) you should learn your lesson.

i said didnt i wouldnt get more than 1 oscar and infact nothing else but a oscar in my new 75 gallon aquarium sadly nothing else:( hopefully il like oscars

a compatible pair could live in a 75 if you are up to maintaining your tank correctly; also you will need a solution fast if compatibility fails.
