Hey Fellow Fish Keepers,

I just bought a Tiger Oscar and hes not to big, maybe three inches, and I wanted to get him some tankmates becuase i love fish so much that one just isn't enough. Any ideas? I was thinking a Jack Dempsey because they get pretty big and wont fit into (Sawyer's) mouth. Lemme know what you think.

...you aren't keeping those mollies with the Osacar are you?

if you have a large enough tank that should be fine.

just for the week.....he seems to like them and they have plenty of hiding space so he doesnt mess with them

I had my tiny oscar with some rasbora, then one day all the rasbora were gone and I had a fat oscar. Funny how they just suddenly realized that they can fit the fish in their mouth.

I have a jack dempsey with my oscar...they get along well. Just make sure there are hiding spots for both if there are fights.

It may work for a while, but once they get bigger, there could be issues. Have you ever seen a full grown oscar in a 55g tank?:nilly:

Yup, at full size you are going to have problems.

I wouldn't go less than a 90 gallon for an Oscar and a JD.

If you have plans for a larger tank (at least a 75, bare minimum), you would be fine. However, the oscar itself is going to outgrow the 55 by itself.
