oscar tankmates ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Although Oscars are big and eat enything that fits in their mouth they really arent as aggressive as some think. Anything that is comparable in size or faster would work.

I agree . . . I wasn't suggesting they are aggressive, only that I think their primary motivation in life is to eat . . . if an oscar see a bite-size fish, it will just unthinkingly try to eat it

unfortunately, it is what killed my oscar, when he basically inhaled a 4" catfish and then died from what I assume were internal injuries from the spines

this is not limited to oscars, either; I once came home to find my 5" green terror swimming around the tank with a half of a 2" white cory sticking out of his mouth . . . the cory was too big to swallow, and because of the spines he couldn't spit it out.

amazingly, once I caught him I was able to extract the cory and both fish survived (!)

plecos are good and they clean ur tank but crap all over the place haha, we have a red tail cat with ours too and it jus sits at the bottom till feedin time and never bothers the oscar

I have a pink convict and a 14" Pleco in with my 13" Oscar. The pink convict pretty much has an agreement with the Oscar. But every now and then they have a go at it. Yes, Pink cons can be very aggressive and have been known to take on fish 4X their size and win. Don't underestimate one.

BTW - those are the only 3 fish in a 90.

ok well a Oscar african knifefish angel fish be ok right now i have the fish in a 55 us gallon tank thay are going to be moveing to a 400 us gallon tank

Oscars are so misunderstood...

They are not aggressive, they are just permanently hungry.

I would be more worried about other fish picking on the Oscar than the other way around. As long as the Oscar can't eat it, then its fine.
