I am currently re-stocking my 125g. I have always wanted to get an Albino Tiger Oscar. I would like to know what would be acceptable tankmates people have had success with these guys long-term. Also, with a tank this size, would it be possible for an ATO to be housed with a school of 5-6 Angels or so? Anyone had success with this combo? I would plan to purchase the Angels first at around the 4" range. The oscar would be purchased as small as possible, needless to say. Aside from the angels, I am thinking of blood parrots, silver dollars and possibly tinfoil barbs. Look forward to hearing what everyone has to say.

Tinfoil(s) plural and oscar would eventually get to crowded later down the road. Typically oscars are not bad with fish their same size, however they are very fast growers and that is probably their biggest downfall. You put them in with fish their size and within two months they are double to triple size of the fish you put them in with and you start to see the others dissappear. Silver dollars would be a good choice with the oscar and blood parrot will probably be ok. Keep in mind that parrot fish can be quite aggressive and might actually bully a small oscar. So, don't get a really large blood parrot and small oscar because he might end up in the corner somewhere. Yes, the oscar if he lives will eventually catch up to the parrot and will probably put him in his place later, it's just the beginning. Not all circumstances will be like this, i'm just giving you a scenerio that might happen due to the agrresiveness of the parrots.

A albino oscar, 3-5 silver dollars, pleco's of choice that get a little size (just not a common pleco) would probably be ideal. This is just my opinion and some others would probably disagree, it's just that you have to think about where the size of these fish are in a year from now. I would even think about a red tail botia, tiger botia "Syncrossus helodes" or leopard botia "Syncrossus berdmorei" to add to the bottom of the tank with good hiding spots and it won't be an issue.

Sorry about rambling on :)

Oscars are beautiful but evil bastards, even to their own kind. I've kept about ten over the years including an albino, who's had a checkered past..it really is touch and go with these lairy fish.if you have 3 or 4 and 2 pair, expect trouble!
Just make sure there's always a spare 50gal on the go and that will save you problems!! Btw the only fish I've had that's more aggressive is a zebra tilapia, avoid!

In a 125, I suggest with the oscar, a selection of milder CA/SA cichlids and a medium catfish or two.

Maybe

1 Oscar
1 GT
1 JD
1 Vieja synspilum
a couple of medium fancy plecos(look for those who get to about 10-12 inches, like a sunshine)

I would not get something too aggressive like Red devils or slow growing like clown loaches...

It depends completely on size and personality. Personality with oscars is a big deal. Some oscars will murder everything while others wouldnt hurt a fly. In my experience, oscars typically leave bottom dwellers alone. I think those fish will be fine except for the angels. IMO angels will be killed off pretty quickly. size is the other factor, oscar might start small but will grow faster than any others, I would buy the oscar small and the other fish pretty big. it only takes a few months for an O to grow to 6-8"

oscars will eat bottom dwellers in they are small enough including clown loaches.

lol sorry I didnt mention that, when I say they leave bottom dwellers alone, i mean with aggression. oscars are fat and will not stop eating, that includes tankmates that fit in their mouth, no one is safe, I just havnt seen much aggression towards bottom dwellers. my Os harrass everyone, but they seem to leave my plecos, ompok, rtc etc alone. However, they will fight anyone over a food item

I had a friend with that exact set up except substitue the vieja with a fire mouth. They had territorial scuffles but no big issues. My Oscar only went after my GT or my Sunfish when they would fight eachother. I guess he considered himself a peacekeeper

My oscar did the same thing when my JD and my Jag fought... weird...
