I currently have 3 Oscars in my 85 gallon long tank. As they grow I will be narrowing them down to one that I will keep for life. I know people will say that I should keep the on Oscar alone forever, but surely there is another fish or two I could keep as well. How far fetched would 2 Oscars be? That would be ideal for me. Could I have a convict pair with them or is it too risky? I love when they spawn in the tank. It's super cool.

Two Oscars is doable with heavy filtration and water changes but that's not a lot of room for territory. No on convict pair. I've seen convict pairs corner Oscars 3x their size.alone is ideal for that tank size unfortunately

The 85 will barely be big enough for 1 Oscar. IMO you need a 125 6'x18" footprint for 2.

As far as tank mates I would not go a breeding pair of anything in that size tank. Maybe bottom dwellers like pictus

The idea isn't far fetched oscars do well together as long as they were raised with each other, the only thing I would worry about is space in the long run, if you want to keep the two oscars I would suggest getting a tank that's a bit bigger, a 125gal would be fine for 2 oscars and a few other fish you would want to add. I have a 10" oscar with a 5" convict and they get along fine

I'm not sure the dimensions of your tank but a pair of oscars in a 85g should be ok space wise you will just need to keep up on maintenance so they avoid getting hith. They arent active swimmers that need a ton of space. Convicts and oscars do well together, i used to keep mainly cichilds and that was one of my first combos.

85 glls is way to small for 2 big O's. pick the one you like the best add some silver dollars now so they can grow together and call it a day. if you wait to long to go with one O and SD you will have a hard time finding SD's big enough that he cant eat.

I disagree with this. In theory sure if you do 75 percent water changes every other day.
