Hello,
The local pet store says oscars can live in water tempetured 22-25 degreese celsius.
but i find this hard to beleve cus where they come from im pretty sure the temps will change more then 3 degrees in a seazon change

so does annyone know what the real temp is they can hold?

I do Fahrenheit and usually O's do best right around 79ºF. A couple degrees up or down once in awhile is probably no big deal.

When the seasons change, the days shorten and prey change, too. These natural cues tell the fish to get ready for the changing season. This doesn't happen in aquaria, so stable temps are usually best.

In the heat of the day, fish retreat down to cooler water or find shade. The aquarium is too small for this.

ok but im gonna keep him with some big sunfish
is that posible whit the temps?
and what is the lowest tempeture that a oscar can handle and stil feel fine?

i think 75F would be fine, oscars are more adaptable than some other species and can handle some cooler temps and be perfectly fine, 75 would still be a little warm for sunfish though but they should be fine as well just make sure there is plenty of oxygenation as warmer water doesnt hold as much oxygen, and make sure you tank is large enough as sunfish can be a bit more aggressive than oscars

and chrisplosion is there a specific reason you keep your temps that high? i dont see that temp as being good for them to continuously be in and it would shorten their life span

Oscars can take a lot lower temperatures. I have two oscars around a foot long in an unheated aquarium with six 8" - 12" Blue Gills. During the winter months, I have the heater(s) set for 74 degrees F. This is due to the need(s) of the Venezuelan Pike Cichlid and Clown knife though and not the Oscars.

Lowest lethal temperature for oscar is 13,9oC.
Not that i advice to keep them that low a temp.
But they will do fine in lower temps.
Their behaviour becomes more docile, as i've found.
In the cold season in Holland, my tank will be at least 74oF/ 23oC and my fish do fine.
I started out with a green sunfish and an oscar.
Now i have plecos, Silver Dollars and a Florida Gar in with the oscars and they do fine at these lower temps.
I do not heat my tank, except for extra airation to disperse the heat from my lights. In summer temps will reach 29oC...

Here's a vid of my gar and oscar hunting together.
They seem fine, don't they?:D
