I bought an oscar about two weeks ago, at around 2.5". he started off fine in my tank and was eating/acting fine. Now he hasnt eaten anything (blood worms nor beef heart) in three days and barely if at all leaves his big plant he hides in. He is not out and about, looks almost depressed and just sits there not reacting to anything. I did a 25% water change and nothing. The dithers in the tank (platys and danios) are perfectly fine. What can I do? What is wrong with him? TIA

have you done anything inside the tank?ie moving wood/rocks around?
have you had the tank set up long? what filter do you have on this set up?
what temp is the water? keep up with daily waterchanges at the moment....

u might need to raise the temp of the water and i assume that u cycled the tank correctly?

Yeah the tank is completely cycled, What will raising the temp do? IS this under the assuption he is sick? He will not eat, ive tried putting gupies in there just now and still nothing, why is he not an aggressive, personality-having, terretorial fish-eating oscar that I want?>

What is your temp? Did you do a remodel (oscars are prone to sulking if things change, kinda like my wife)? How long has the tank been up and running and what size tank/filter do you have? How many dithers/future lunch do you have with it?

is there a swollen belly or white stringy feces? I'd start thinking possible internal parasites if it continues to refuse food

the tank is a 30 breeder (obviously not for life) I have a tetra filter rated for 45 gallons. I have 5 danios, 5 platys and now like 40 tiny guppies (asked for 20 recieved like 70 and gave the rest to my gf) temp is 80, I made him a pvc cave covered in rocks with hot glue and he couldnt give a ***** less about it, lol. Should I remove that?

Test the water. The cave the oscar will most likely ignore. Not sure on use of hotglue in the tank though, take it out. Could be leaching something, don't know for sure. Stick with silicon for projects like that.

Wow, got home form work and he is dead, I feel horrible :( I got him for 2 dollars from walmart late at night a while back (dont start a walmart bash) do you think he could have had a parasite from walmart? Man this blows, he was just a little guy

wal-mart fish are always sick lesson learned. Try to explore more into the cichlid world instead of buying an oscar unless u are thinking of keeping another one for life cause they are pritty hard to get rid of when they get older. Just my opinion tho.
