I would be careful and do some extra water changes. Most likely the water in that tank was messed up, if that person wanted the fish gone that bad and didn't tell you he was like that. Does it seem like he has hith or any other diseases?
Oscar with a deformed face?

I hope you decide to take care of him. Whatever we humans like to call it, if the fish swims and eats fine, its not a deformity but unwanted trait by most. How could one cull a healthy otherwise fish?
He isn't sick at all. He looks fine (except for the deform face) and eats flake food fine. I pulled out a 55 from the garage for him. He is really small for being 6 months old but probably the mouth deformity causes him not to be able to eat as much as regular oscars.

Yeah, I am going to keep him. It's kind of funny because when my girlfriend saw him, she said why do you want a fish that looks like a turtle? I didn't know what she was talking about and I told her it's just a small oscar fish and then I looked at his face more closely....

Yeah, poor little guy, my vote is give him a good home! No reason to kill him if he can eat and is healthy!
My oscar dislocated his jaw and it locked ... I was able to massage it back into place ... but if it's injury and not birth defect it looks like it's been that way for a while so I'm not sure that's an option .. probably birth defect or old injury
Good for you. Give him a good life. I'd be interested to see how he progresses in the next few months.
I'll keep you guys posted. So far so good. Actually picked him up a friend. They could be twins except this other one's bottom jaw/gill looks even more weird.
